Sarasota FL Assault & Battery Attorney

Southwest Florida Lawyer Protecting Your Child's Future

When a minor is caught fighting at school or elsewhere, he or she may be charged with juvenile assault or battery. The stakes increase if a weapon was involved in the incident. If the court finds your child delinquent, his or her future opportunities can be jeopardized.

My name is Anthony G. Ryan. Since 2001, I have been representing minors charged with a range of juvenile offenses, including assault and battery. I understand how frightening it is for entire families when a child is charged with an offense. My goal is to minimize the impact of the accusation on the minor's future.

Juvenile Assault Defense Attorney

When a juvenile is arrested, he or she is brought in front of a judge for a detention hearing. It is important to know that the minor can be held before any finding of guilt. At trial, if the court determines that your child was delinquent, the law provides for a wide range of penalties to be decided by the judge, including juvenile prison, a residential treatment program or probation for an indeterminate period of time.

As your child's attorney, I will launch an investigation into the juvenile assault or battery charge. I will view any relevant evidence, such as school videotapes, and speak to any witnesses. I will gather and evaluate evidence to determine if there was a reason for your child to get involved in the fray or if self-defense played a part in the incident. I can also help if the minor was charged with a related weapons offense.

When a Minor Is Charged as an Adult

In some serious assault and battery cases, a minor's case can be tried in adult court, where he or she faces harsher penalties. As your child's lawyer, I will work diligently to protect the minor's rights and work to keep the case in the juvenile system. If the matter does proceed to adult court, I will provide experienced and assertive criminal defense.
